A palette of Green

I have to say, I love this green.... obsessed might be a better word....I own many items in this shade....from my darling kettle, painted furniture, my sofa and even our wedding palette! So when it came to photographing this new bouquet for Amy....I just had to make my sofa the backdrop.....a match made in heaven!

This fabulous green is the colour of her Bridesmaids dresses....mix in soft ivory silk and a sprinkling of Vintage buttons, jewellery, crystal and plenty of sentimental family pieces and not to forget those showgirl feathers!!

I think I will always have a love affair with colour.....its dreamy...slightly medieval, and if i was to tell you my Bride has the most beautiful red hair?? Can you picture it? I cannot wait for those photo!!!

I also made some wrist corsages for her bridesmaids....gorgeous silk and lace...stunning....

...and buttonholes for the Men....

....Green with envy....

Soft and romantic....just what a wedding should be!

I'm wishing Amy the most wonderful wedding day....enjoy every second!!

Inspiration Board...Invitations

I think all of these are super cute and fun invitations....my personal favorite??? I love the circus invite...which isn't even a wedding specific invite...but it is just divine!
I also adore the DIY element of the Moo cards...J'Adore Moo cards, we did our Thank you card with them and they were just beautiful.

Last Bouquet of 2010

A Festive plum pudding of a bouquet for you!!

This colour is set to be popular next year....different tones of Plums and Heather....perfect for a January wedding!!

A Mothers wedding dress...her veil....and a trinket box of treasure helped to make this lovely bouquet....and 4 Bridesmaids bouquets as well..... I used every last bit of the fabric......

....Even the empire line lace trim was used on the binding of the handle....touching history....feeling the memories.....

...and all finished off with a locket....maybe for the next bride to fill with old family photos....the term Re-use, Re-cycle, Re-make is still this Vintage Magpie's motto.
Enjoy your Day Jane!! xxx

Tip Top Topper

I have just finished our cake topper! We were going to have a cake of cheese rounds...but this worked out too expensive, so we are going for a cheese table instead...and having homemade cup cakes under this beauty......

It was fun to make, and includes our love for vintage maps, and our Save the Date card photos, which we adore so much.

...and of course it had to have a Scottie on there too, even if he is the wrong colour!
I think it is just divine. xxx

Clashing colours - Green and Turquoise Theme

I love clashing colours. It is very rare that I get asked to make a bouquet with bold colours in it. So I thought I would make one just for the fun of it! I love the veiling around the bouquet...it ties the whole theme together.

This Ribbon started it off...isn't it wonderful? It is really simple and totally cute. I put it next to a green dress I have and was blown away with just how good it looked...maybe a photo shoot will be needed!!

The whole collection will be sold together in my Moonbeams Kiss the Magpie shop for £220. This is for the buttonhole, bouquet, and hair piece. The P&P charge is included in that price too....me thinks a bargain for looking H.O.T on your wedding day!!

Email me if you are interested..... xxx

Green thinking

Now in no way am I an Eco Warrior....I'm not like the lady who walks Brighton seafront, in her dungerees splashed with the words "The Eco Warrior is here", pulling out cola, and beer cans from the bins, and recycling them....she has dedication... but not something I would ever consider doing at 7am in the morning!
But it did get me thinking.... That my lovely Vintage Magpie is my own eco warrior business. I recycle, reuse, remake, I use a limited amount of new good in my designs... and they come out looking better than the new bouquets you can buy.
I was directed to a website story of stuff and although it is Amercian, the message is still valid on our little island... we simply buy too much, and throw away too much, simple but true. If we go back 50 years, or just ask our Grandmothers, we can see how much we have changed.

When I told my Grandma that I was starting to make my own clothes because I was fed up with the amount of choice, but never finding anything I like, she was delighted!! She told me that she ALWAYS made her clothes, right down to her undies... a true War child! But saying that, my mother was an art student, and she did the same (just not the undies!) and that was only in the 70's!! Why have we lost this way of life? I personally think it is a shame, but then I love to make thing, not everyone is the same, and I understand that.

But if we just thought about our consumser attitude it might get someone to just DO something to help for our future..... maybe not going through the bins though.....like I said pure dedication.... but hey she is a warrior!
I'm quite proud to say that my business is doing it's bit to help... not totally a green product... but no-one is perfect!!
