Darling Jude

I know you will recognise this bouquet if you have been following my blog for a while.
This is Darling Judes bouquet. It was made a few years ago, but it continues to bring me a huge amount of pride.
Jude has become a great champion of Vintage Magpie. She is always there to remind me why I do this job...why I create these beautiful works of art.

Her bouquet had pieces of her family history in it. Unfortunately due to ill health her Mum couldn't be there on her day, but her bouquet has her nurses medal in it and was of great comfort to Jude when she walked up the aisle....see what she said about it here.

I was recently featured on Urban Sugar's blog, and to my joy Jude had posted a comment....
this is what she said....

"I cannot praise the Magpie's work enough. For any bride thinking of getting a bouquet from Emma I can guarantee it will bring you memories, and an heirloom to last a lifetime. One of my main reasons for getting a Vintage Magpie Bouquet (aside from how fabulous they look) was the link it gave me to members of my family who couldn't be at my wedding- particularly my adored Mum. My Mum passed away a few weeks ago, and looking at my bouquet, which houses her most treasured and personal things, gives me comfort every day. You simply cannot put a price on that."

Once again Jude has amazed me. Even in what I can only imagine to be a heartbreaking time for her, she has taken the time to write such wonderful and thoughtful things about my work.
So Thank you Jude. Your soul is beautiful and I'm sure your Mum is looking down at you with a heart brimming over with pride at what an amazing woman she brought into this world.

A palette of Green

I have to say, I love this green.... obsessed might be a better word....I own many items in this shade....from my darling kettle, painted furniture, my sofa and even our wedding palette! So when it came to photographing this new bouquet for Amy....I just had to make my sofa the backdrop.....a match made in heaven!

This fabulous green is the colour of her Bridesmaids dresses....mix in soft ivory silk and a sprinkling of Vintage buttons, jewellery, crystal and plenty of sentimental family pieces and not to forget those showgirl feathers!!

I think I will always have a love affair with colour.....its dreamy...slightly medieval, and if i was to tell you my Bride has the most beautiful red hair?? Can you picture it? I cannot wait for those photo!!!

I also made some wrist corsages for her bridesmaids....gorgeous silk and lace...stunning....

...and buttonholes for the Men....

....Green with envy....

Soft and romantic....just what a wedding should be!

I'm wishing Amy the most wonderful wedding day....enjoy every second!!

Last Bouquet of 2010

A Festive plum pudding of a bouquet for you!!

This colour is set to be popular next year....different tones of Plums and Heather....perfect for a January wedding!!

A Mothers wedding dress...her veil....and a trinket box of treasure helped to make this lovely bouquet....and 4 Bridesmaids bouquets as well..... I used every last bit of the fabric......

....Even the empire line lace trim was used on the binding of the handle....touching history....feeling the memories.....

...and all finished off with a locket....maybe for the next bride to fill with old family photos....the term Re-use, Re-cycle, Re-make is still this Vintage Magpie's motto.
Enjoy your Day Jane!! xxx

A Bubbling Bouquet

This bouquet was not created for a Bride, but for a wife.....

So what are you doing to do with your dress after your day? One of my gorgeous girlie's decided she wanted it made into a Vintage Magpie bouquet..... so I asked her 10 times if she was sure she wanted me to take the scissors to her stunning dress.....then I cut.....this was the result.....

A splash of personal pieces...a measure of silk wedding dress.....and a celebratory champagne cork!!

The cork was from the champagne bottle that announced their engagement...too cute!
It now has pride of place in their bedroom.....how perfect xxx

A Spring Sparkler

This is what I have been working on for a little while now. It has the most divine creamy freshwater pearls in it... they work so well.

I love the odd shapes you get with pearls...totally
random, and unique. They make the bouquet look so classic.

I wonder....one day I might make one out of diamonds, and someones amazingly expensive jewels... that would be a special treat, but maybe a tad daunting...
...but if your reading William or Harry I would do it for free for your beautiful brides!!
Enjoy your Bouquet Jane!! xxx

Welcome...

Do you know that in Holland they put a Stork in the front garden to let everyone know you have just had a baby...a celebration of birth.

When we went to see the newest member of the Wonderful Dutch Family I was delighted to see a 5 foot tall fairy lit Stork in their front garden...isn't that the cutest thing?!

The Wonderful Dutchman and The Mighty Tim!!

Over the road from them they had also had a baby and they had the back end of a stork with flapping wings on the window...and inside there front room was the head! Just like it had crashed through to deliver a baby... when we have a baby, I am getting one of those!! It is just the best thing ever :) I am gutted I didn't take a photo

Look how tiny he is!

A Dutch tradition is that when a baby arrives, visitors who come to see the new infant are treated to “ Beschuit met muisjes”, and this is where a Beschuit (like dry and toasted french stick but slightly sweet) is smeared with butter or margarine and then either pink and white ( for a girl) or blue and white ( for a boy) muisjes are spread on top . They taste of aniseed, and are hard, but yummy!

I was too busy having a cuddle that I forgot to take a photo of those too, so thank you Internet!

Baby Chris was the model baby...he slept the whole time, and like his big brother; The Mighty Tim, he was a pleasure to be around.

Congratulations Familie Groot!! xxx

Joy

2009 was a busy year for me... So many brides, so much Joy...

Jude's bouquet stands out as my special bouquet...

Not because I think it is better than the rest, but because the story of her objects meant so much to her... having people who couldn't be near her on her day... walking down the aisle with her... being apart of it... sending her Joy..

After having been in Holland this weekend, I saw Joy in another form... a bundle of Joy...a stork has sent a baby Boy...
Oh sweet Joy.

Hip Hip Horay....Autumn is here!!

As I opened the window in my studio/still bedroom this morning I smelt it.... That gorgeous crisp chill... The salt in the air.
I heard the russling of falling leaves.... The howl of the wind and the screech of the sea gulls...

I looked at my home and photographed a few of my favorite things in the Autumn light.... my line up of Scotties.... the champagne chairs and table... a silver vase with trailing ivy....

The gourdes of the season looking wonderful with the daffodils of spring.....
Wrap up warm and Enjoy your weekend....xxx

A Spoonful of Sparkle, makes for a Happy Bride!

This bouquet, has a bundle of family pieces in it, a spoonful of crystal, a measure of pearls and heap of silk....do you like the recipe?

It is simple yet so stunning...it has a gorgeous dress to contend with...but I think they will both shine....but the brightest star will be the bride, as it always should be.

Do you see the super lovely vintage map bunting? It will be over the big, big sea, as I write! I wish I was with it!

Enjoy Stacey...I really cannot wait to see the photos! xxx

Sweet Twinkling Mink

This is Bethany's bouquet.... Her lovely Mum bought her a gift voucher last year for her birthday, so she could have a Vintage Magpie bouquet for her wedding... Aren't Mums the greatest thing ever?

A year later... here is her birthday present!

It has her Grandmother's ring on the handle, so she can have a gentle touch of a woman who's wisdom will calm her.....and her memories of her will make her smile...

And a pair of ballet shoe's twinkling in the light...walk with grace and pride....
These little things make my job so fantastic...I love history, and when it is this close to me it makes my heart sing. I'm so lucky to be trusted with someones memories...I am blessed.

This Corsage is for Bethany's Mum...well we can't have the bride having all the sparkle! Stylish, and chic...just like the lady!
Both mother and daughter have been wonderful to work with. Bethany's Mum; Pam, has sent me many a lovely, thoughtful and kind email over the last few months...such positivity that has brightened my day... So I have to thank you for that Pam, your words have meant so much...Thank you.
Enjoy every second Bethany xxx
Pam, sparkle like the star you are! xxx

Pretty in Pewter

Here is my latest brides bouquet........

......My bride Helen wanted something that would tie her wonderful pewter heels with the rest of her outfit, and a Vintage Magpie bouquet was the answer! A few family pieces were added to the design, including a gorgeous bow brooch that was her Grandmother's.

With the photos sent of the finished bouquet, I got an e-mail exclaiming " I LOVE IT", (sent twice!)..... so I'm thinking she is happy! ; ) Enjoy Helen xxx
